Insight 6 - The Veil of "I" is born of Maya

Insight 6

The Veil of "I" is born of Maya

Teaching:

The "Veil Of I" is woven from the threads of Maya. When the light of awareness (Naam, Simran, Zikr) shines through, this veil thins and we see only the One.

The only distance between you and God is the illusion of "I." When the "I" fades away, the Beloved is revealed. The "I" is the veil, it says I do, I know, I am. But everything is done through His Will.

Even the breath we call ours is His gift. When we let go of this false self, the heart becomes clear and we see that there was never any distance.

Practice:

Sit quietly. Place your hand on your heart and say slowly inside, "Not I, but You within me." Let the words soften into silence. Feel that everything, your breath, your thoughts, your love - is the One moving through you.

Contemplation Question:

Where in my life do I still say, "I did it"? Can I begin to see that it was always He through me?

Reminder of the Day:

Watch your words today especially when you say I. Each time you notice it, silently replace it with You. Let your actions, thoughts and breath become a living remembrance that only the One acts through all.

Gurbani Reflection:

"Jab haumai jai ta Har paaiya."

- Guru Amar Das Ji, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Ang 560.

("When the "I" goes, the truth appears. It was always there, waiting for us to remember.")

Comparative Reflection - Sufism:

"Between me and You, there is only me. Remove the me and only You remain." - Al-Hallaj.

"Your worst enemy sits within your own chest." - Rumi.

The Sufi and the Sikh both speak of the same truth that we must empty ourselves to be filled with Him. When the "I" is gone, love takes over and only One Face everywhere. There was never two but only the One Light, playing as me, as you, all.

Reflection by Writer:

"The drop was never lost, it was always in the sea. Now, I only feel his Presence moving through me."
